What is Kodály Music Education?
Zoltan Kodály is the name of a 20th century Hungarian musician, ethnomusicologist, composer, teacher, and humanitarian who sought to preserve his national heritage and dignity through music education of all people. He believed that beauty, that music, belonged to all people, not just the wealthy or elite or specially gifted. He wanted students to develop a well-trained ear, a well trained intellect, a well-trained hand, and a well trained heart. The basis of this education is singing. The mind, the ear, the voice. His collected principles and methods gave birth to an international movement in music education that flourishes today.
Kodály ideals and methods are more applicable to our time than ever before. KEF is an organization that promotes these ideals, and supports teachers. |
